PGA Championship update at 7:50:

Kevin Kisner of Aiken, S.C., pulled into a tie for the first-round lead with Denmark’s Thorbjorn Olesen, shooting a 4-underr 67 in the afternoon groupings at Quail Hollow Club. Kisner, who played college golf at Georgia, had six birdies Thursday and two bogeys.

There is a five-way tie for second at 68 that includes U.S. Open champion Brooks Koepka.

Jordan Spieth, pursuing a career Grand Slam of the four golf majors, finished 1-over par. He saved his round with birdies on two of his last three holes, Nos. 7 and 8. Spieth, who won the British Open last month, had back-to-back bogeys on Nos. 5 and 6.

Spieth also bogeyed No. 18 – he opened Thursday on the back 9 – and No. 1, the redesigned hole golfers anticipated to be much tougher this week.
