Scott Fowler’s quick takes on the week in sports:
▪ I liked the fact that new Charlotte 49ers basketball coach Mark Price has hired Houston Fancher – the head coach at Appalachian State for nine years – as an assistant. Fancher can help Price immensely in terms of what the day-to-day job of a college coach really is.
Plus, if Price ever gets in a jam, he can call Fancher and say, “Houston, we have a problem.”
▪ Monday night’s NCAA championship game will be hard-pressed to match the extraordinary title game of 30 years ago, when Villanova edged Georgetown 66-64, beating Patrick Ewing (now a Hornets assistant). Look back at that box score sometime. Villanova was 22-for-28 from the field for the game – 79.8 percent. Unreal.

▪ Bargain of the week: The Charlotte Knights will play Davidson College on Monday in an exhibition at BB&T Ballpark. Admission to the 3:05 p.m. game is free, with the gates opening at 2 p.m. Watch a few innings, then go home and watch the national championship on TV – that’s a sweet sports day.
