Skip the line at Starbucks and get your fancy coffee drink faster. And other development news

Looking for that mid-afternoon caffeine fix? Now you can skip the line at Starbucks when you’re jonesing for a grande triple-shot skinny no whip vanilla latte. (Is that a real drink order? We just kind of made it up.)

As of yesterday, anyone with an iPhone and the Starbucks mobile app can order coffee drinks from their phone. And as we know, ordering things from a smartphone is all the rage these days.

How it works:

– Open your Starbucks app and click the “Order” button in the top right corner. (If you don’t see it, make sure your location services are on for Starbucks.)

– Order your drink. If you’re a picky drinker, you can customize your beverage just like you would in the store.

– When you place an order, the closest Starbucks that offers mobile ordering will be selected, but you can change to a different location.

– Wait times will show up when you order, and the app will give you directions if needed.

Happy drinking.

Craft beer bar coming to downtown Pineville

According to CharlotteBeer.com, the cleverly-named Pintville Craft Beer will open in downtown Pineville sometime in mid-July or August.

//><!--The bar and bottle shop will open at 329 Main St. inside a 100-year-old building with an exposed brick interior.//--><!

Owners Natasha Young and her husband Sam Delbrouque plan to have 24-30 taps with one dedicated to nitro pours. They will also have bottles for sale.

So long, Tommy’s Pub

On Monday, the Charlotte City Council voted to approve a rezoning request from DPJ Residential. That means the building that houses Tommy’s Pub and Backstage Vintage Apparel will be demolished and replaced by a 97-unit apartment complex.

The group Plaza Midwood Shows Up formed to oppose the request, and the rezoning debate has led to a discussion about whether the apartment boom is good or bad for Charlotte. (For more on this, check out Ely Portillo’s column about ‘sterilizing’ Charlotte.)

“I think this will be a good development, and hopefully we’ll find another location for Tommy’s Pub,” council member Patsy Kinsey told the Observer.

Construction continues at new NoDa Brewing location

Based on a report from the Charlotte Business Journal, NoDa Brewing Company’s new location on North Tryon Street seems to be coming along nicely.

The facility could open in early September, according to Suzie Ford, who owns NoDa with her husband, Todd.

The owners are spending about $8 million to turn the 32,000-square-foot warehouse into a 60-barrel brewhouse. The brewery’s current location has a 15-barrel system.

The taproom will also grow to 4,000 square feet. The current one is 1,600 square feet. And apparently there’s going to be a tower converted into a drive-in-style movie screen?

More info and photos are on the CBJ site.

Mediterranean smokehouse coming to Dilworth

A Mediterranean-inspired barbecue smokehouse will open in the former Tijuana Flats space on East Boulevard, with a possible opening date in September.

The yet-to-be-named restaurant will be run by Martin Sprock, who cofounded Moe’s in 2000 and whose other ventures include RuRu’s and Leroy Fox.

The menu will feature barbecue menu items like pulled pork, but with a Mediterranean flavor. We’re intrigued.

Stonewall Street is still crazy popular

Remember when we wrote about all the developers fighting over one parcel of land on Stonewall Street? Well, there’s yet another upset bid.

A company affiliated with the development firm Bond Companies has offered $15.1 million for the 3.8-acre parcel, the third upset bid on the piece of land owned by the city.

City Council will need to decide whether to accept the bid at next Monday’s meeting.
