Eat more, move less: Another food delivery service and other business news
I don’t know what this says about our fair city, but another food delivery service recently started operating in Charlotte.
Doorstep Delivery, which started in Florida in 1999, works through a smartphone app and also offers:
– Dine-in coupons
– Space for restaurants to display awards and promotional pieces.
– A mapping feature that lets users locate restaurants if they want to, you know, get off the couch or something.
Restaurants available now: McAlister’s Deli, Cold Stone Creamery, American Roadside and P.F. Chang’s.
BONUS: Get half off your first order if you use the coupon code “DDLAUNCH.”
With this, Postmates, Crunchbutton and BrewPublik around there’s no need to ever leave the house again.
‘Queen City Gear’
The perfect gift for that special someone that lives in Elizabeth: A beer glass that says “Elizabeth: Home of the Trolley Tracks to Nowhere.”
That’s one of the several items available from Hixson Designs, a graphic design firm that launched Queen City Gear.
You could also get a T-shirt that reads “Plaza Midwood: Home of the dead Penguin” or a purple and teal “NetHor” shirt.

Truth.
More apartments …
… But at least these sound affordable. But that’s only because they’re waaaaay far away from the city center.
Wood Partners has started construction on a complex next to the Charlotte Premium Outlets. It will include 266 units on 16 acres and should be finished by December 2016.
Perks:
– The commute uptown would be up the less-congested West Boulevard.
– “The infill deals in close to town have rents in the range of $1.90 a foot into the low $2 range. The southwest apartment market, you’re looking more at the $1 to $1.25 range.” – Ray Smith, VP of development for Wood Partners.
Wood Partners is also prepping for a 292-unit apartment complex near the Prosperity Church Road interchange with I-485 in north Charlotte.
Sobering line from this Ely Portillo article: “And, lest anyone forget: We’re still in the midst of the biggest apartment boom in Charlotte history, with more than 10,400 units under construction and another 10,300 planned after that wave.”
Opening:
– The Workman’s Friend today in Plaza Midwood. The Irish pub is located at 1531 Central Ave.

– rue21 and Chipotle this summer in Carolina Place mall. The casual apparel retailer will open early July beside Belk, and the burrito joint will open “later this summer” in the food court.
– Copper Penny this fall in Phillip’s Place. The Charleston-based upscale women’s boutique will fill an 1,800-square-foot space between Paper Source and Orvis.
Coming:
– Three Spirits Brewery to Old Pineville Road. According to this newsletter, the owner is a former doctor who quit to follow his dream. Pretty cool. (h/t @CharlotteBeer.)

Closing:
– D’Vine Wine Cafe in Ballantyne. Full menu will be served through June 27. The last night of service will be June 30.
Blowin’ up:
– Stephen Curry merch. The Charlotte-grown NBA MVP is so hot right now. His estimated sponsorship income for this year is $5.5 million.
