South End Business Park getting a makeover, and other development news
Today in development news …
Urban upgrade
Time for a facelift. The Observer reported that Stockbridge Capital purchased the business park at South Tryon and Clanton for $9.9 million and hopes to give it a makeover by:
– Rebranding it as “South End Business Park” to associate it with the entrance to this segment of town.

Seize the style
Fashion seekers, make space in your calendar. June 19 is the date that South End Chic Boutique has set to open its South End retail spot, according to Charlotte Business Journal.
Get ready for:
– “Boho Chic” items (think casual and leisure styles).
– Colorful, seasonal trends.

Shaking the money tree
The conversion of Family Dollars into Dollar Trees could help Dollar General, according to the Observer. Dollar Tree recently acquired Family Dollar for $8.5 billion.
Dollar General offers similar products and prices to Family Dollar, which is based in Matthews, so customers may prefer Dollar General to a Family-Dollar-turned-Dollar-Tree.
Why?
– Its customer base is lower- to middle-income.
– It carries national brands, rather than items that are just $1 or less.
Rest stop
A new SouthPark hotel is rising on Sharon Road, according to the Observer.
The dual-branded Hilton Garden Inn and Homewood Suites will take over the Olde Town Apartments development, thanks to developers Allen Tate, Jr., John Crosland, Jr., and Chartwell Hospitality.
What to expect upon the projected 2016 completion:
– 150 rooms at the Hilton Garden Inn.
– 120 rooms at the Homewood Suites.
