Sip on some suds, savor Uber’s expanded services

AP

Be original, save some cash — brew your own beer.

Craving some suds, but not a $30 bar tab? Visit House of Brews, Charlotte’s newest home brewery supply store on Tryclan Drive to buy equipment and make beer from home. At the store’s grand opening on Saturday, husband and wife co-owners will host a “bottle share” for home brewers to exchange their homemade beer. They will also host monthly sessions to educate people on home brewing, and hope to one day earn a liquor license.

Yes, there’s more development in First Ward:

I’m guessing you’ve heard about all the development plans for First Ward Park. Don’t expect that to stop any time soon. The building that used to house Dixie’s Tavern (it closed in 2013) will become a series of office spaces, according to plans submitted to the city and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Historic Landmarks Commission.

The new plans for the site, which has remained unused, recently passed the Design Review Committee of the Historic Landmark Commission, and will be voted on Monday at 6 p.m. If the vote passes, the building should open late this year.

Uber expands its horizons. Literally.

Just in time for its five-year anniversary, Uber is expanding its services to Concord, Cornelius, Davidson and Huntersville. Riders will now be able to use the app to go as far as Charlotte Motor Speedway and Lake Norman.

Amen to that.

Soccer junkies rejoice.

Planning for construction to Charlotte Independence’s Ramblewood Soccer Complex began Thursday. Consulting firm Nussli has promised to build a temporary, 4,700-seat stadium for the team to use for the remainder of this season, likely at least until 2017.

Hopefully there will be minimal biting.
