#FollowFriday: Five Questions with @djhannimal
This agent of social change grew from Charlotte roots.
Name: Hannah Levinson
Hometown: Charlotte, N.C.
Twitter handle: @djhannimal
Working: As Director of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Davidson College
(1) What’s your background?
“Nonprofit/social impact Jane of all trades: Direct service, development, community outreach, marcoms, strategy and consulting. I was in refugee resettlement and migrant advocacy for several years and worked in Raleigh-Durham, Washington, D.C., and Atlanta most recently before returning to Charlotte for grad school in 2012. After producing a documentary film and finishing my Master of Arts in Ethics and Applied Philosophy, I freelanced, traveled and consulted for about a year before starting the next stage of my career with Social Venture Partners … My role with Davidson began June 1.”
Two years ago, I produced a documentary on the effects of U.S. #immigration policies on families. Screen it here: https://t.co/G6oUDCb1y5

(2) What kind of work will you be doing as the Director of Entrepreneurship and Innovation?
“The Entrepreneurship and Innovation Initiative’s a pretty new venture for Davidson … My charge is to grow the Initiative to its full potential and make Davidson the premier destination where liberal arts and entrepreneurship intersect and thrive — the future, in my view, of 21st-century higher education and servant leadership.”
(3) If you had to pick one passion, what would it be? “Building educational and economic empowerment for women and girls. The longer I live, the stronger and more urgent my feminism becomes. It manifests in my speech, work, affiliations, service and relationships and is a defining feature of my identity and how I see the world.”
“For a time I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.” #WildWomenCLT pic.twitter.com/WgxAEXFxe3

(4) Outside of Davidson, what projects are you working on?
“Right now I’m laser-focused on #GovJamCLT, a project of the Charlotte Global Shapers that provides a unique opportunity for our citizenry to build solutions to local public sector issues affecting Charlotte … Year-round, I serve on the board of Girls Rock Charlotte … I also host events for the Charlotte Area Tweet Tarts, a 2,000-member online-to-IRL women’s group, and co-curate a series called Charlotte Art Meet with Jeff Jackson.”
(5) What tech tool is your favorite?
“I owe my life to iCal. Also, if I get the leeway to make this a two-fer, Spotify keeps me sane. I’m currently building a playlist called Summer of Love that I hope fellow audiophiles on here adore.”
