Franklin Graham: Christians should boycott Wells Fargo because of same-sex ad
It’s 2015. Thirty-seven U.S. states have legalized same-sex marriage.
Franklin Graham doesn’t seem too happy about it.
Graham wrote a lengthy rant on Facebook over the weekend calling on Christians to boycott corporations that feature same-sex couples in advertising.
As the head of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Boone-based Samaritan’s Purse, Graham has considerable leverage. As of late Monday night, the post had more than 93,000 likes and 41,000 shares on Facebook.
What he’s done so far:
– Moved all of his ministries’ bank accounts out of Wells Fargo because of their commercial featuring a lesbian couple.
– Singled out Tiffany & Co for having advertisements with gay couples.
– Said on Facebook: “Let’s just stop doing business with those who promote sin and stand against Almighty God’s laws and His standards. Maybe if enough of us do this, it will get their attention.”
Recently, Corporate America has increasingly taken a pro-LGBTQ rights stance in advertisements, social media posts and commercials.
Some examples:
– In June 2012, Oreo posted a photo on Facebook of a cookie that had all six colors of the rainbow with the caption “Proudly support love!”
– During the 2014 Sochi Winter Games, sponsors AT&T, DeVry University and Chobani spoke out against Russia’s law banning gay “propaganda” from reaching minors. Chevrolet also aired two ads featuring gay couples during the U.S. broadcast of the opening ceremony.
– Target aired a “Made to Matter” commercial on Sept. 13 that featured a gay couple painting with its young child.
Looks like Graham’s going to have to find another cookie for his bedtime snack.
