5 things you might not know about Bob Saget, who is in town this weekend

Bob Saget has a reputation for foul-mouthed humor, but over the course of a 23-minute phone interview, he avoided using even the mildest of profanity.

“So many comedians are 10 times bluer than I am. I don’t even approach the kind of way they talk about things,” says the comedian, 58, who returns to Charlotte’s The Comedy Zone for four shows this weekend. “I’m doing what I find funny, and it’s not purposefully blue.”

Of course, another F-word he’s known for did come up in our chat – that being “Full House,” the ’80s-’90s-era ABC family sitcom that cast him as warm, affable, neat-freak dad Danny Tanner.

He also talked about the viral video Mashable posted that re-casts the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie trailer with Saget dubbing both lead characters’ lines. And he talked about … actually, just read on to learn five things you might not know about Saget.

1. He’ll be returning to “America’s Funniest Home Videos” – for a cameo: “Tom (Bergeron) is leaving it now, and so we recently did a little funny thing together that’ll be seen on the show. (The season finale – Tom Bergeron’s last show as host – airs Sunday.) But no one’s supposed to know about it. Big secret. I keep secrets really great.”

2. He’ll (probably) appear in 2016 on Netflix’s “Fuller House,” starring former “Full House” child stars Candace Cameron Bure, Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber: “I have been asked to not speak to anyone in the media. … But signs point to yes. And I’m happy to do it to be with the people that I still have a great deal of affection for, and to help the girls kick their show off. But I also don’t want to do something that throws a tomato in everything.”

3. He has some wild ideas about what Danny Tanner has been up to for the past 20 years: “I think he became a certified gynecologist. Or I was thinking transgender surgery. I don’t know. Maybe he just started driving red convertibles across the Golden Gate Bridge for a living.

“Whatever it’s gonna be, if Danny’s in it, it’s probably not gonna go in-depth. I don’t think it’s going be a psychological profile of what Danny has become. I’m sure he’s a very nice person, who’s two-dimensional, but he loves his kids and I think he’s gotten over the cleaning thing would be my guess.”

4. He was duped into dubbing the dialogue for that send-up of the “Fifty Shades of Grey” trailer: “I was put in a corner at South by Southwest (the entertainment festival in March in Austin), where I was very proud to do a benefit for the Ally Coalition. Someone just said, ‘Read this for us.’ And I said, ‘What, are you gonna make some audio thing out of it?’ And they went, ‘Yeah.’

“Now they go and make something that makes it look like I worked on it. I just read it outside of a building. … Total hazing. I was totally hazed into doing that. … You could just walk up to me in a mall and you could make a series out of it.”

5. He hopes this visit to Charlotte goes more smoothly than his last (in November 2012): “I had done two shows the night before. I woke up and I thought, ‘Oh, you’re on the road, come on, do something you want. Eat something bad.’ And I went for buffalo chicken wings at 2 in the afternoon.

“So I’m eating them and my tooth breaks off. And being the Cro-Magnon that I am, I just keep eating them. ’Cause I knew it came off, but I figured, ‘Hey, I’m a hot mess, I might as well just finish this thing off.’ It looked like a crime scene. I was just covered in buffalo blood. I cleaned up … and the club owner took me over to see his friend who’s a dentist at a strip mall. So my last memory of Charlotte was laying back in a chair with a guy that possibly had a couple beers in him drilling into my face.”
