5 things you should know about Asian Corner Mall

If you’ve never been to Asian Corner Mall on North Tryon Street, it may seem a little strange at first.

The mall looks like it’s been frozen in time. It can be near deserted on a Saturday afternoon with dust on the floor and newspapers covering the windows.

This is no ordinary mall full of hustle and bustle, but there is a lot of great stuff in store for the brave hearts out there looking for something different.

Here are five things I’ve learned from various adventures there:

(1) The parking lot is rife with potholes the likes of which you’ve never seen. It is like the surface of the moon. Drive as slow as a lunar rover and you will be fine.

(2) Don’t be scared. It may not be SouthPark but I’ve never had any issues. No one will bother you, just be aware of your surroundings like anywhere.

(3) Le’s Sandwiches & Cafe is a must visit if you are into the French and Vietnamese fusion of banh mi sandwiches. One of the few signs of life inside the mall, this hopping little place has cheap, delicious sandwiches and bubble tea. Cash only!

(4) The grocery stores are really interesting! I usually go to the International Supermarket next to Le’s. You can buy kitchen supplies, produce and curry, among loads of other things. They have a ramen selection that would make a college freshman weep.

(5) There is a big Compare grocery store outside of the mall that has a super good bakery. The empanadas are delicious!
