Eat your way through BB&T Ballpark

Being ranked one of the top minor league ballparks in the country means the bar is set high for vendors of BB&T Ballpark. It’s on them to provide the tastiest eats and drinks to ticket holders attending any of the 70 home baseball games.

And this baseball season — which starts Thursday — they’ve knocked it out of the park.

Bringing in local favorite Sabor and adding healthy options to their own concessions means you now have more options to go along with the traditional hot dog and peanuts. Now you can have an empanada with a Birdsong Jalepeño Ale — and finish it off with a watermelon and feta salad.

“We always will have hot dogs and tenders, but we are getting more of a voice saying: ‘Where can we have our health-conscious gluten-free items that are diabetes-friendly?’ more so this year than years past,” general manager of concessions Kevin Hill said.

Here are 5 of our favorite things you should consider:

(1) Sabor

What to order: Chicken Empanada

Owner Dalton Espaillat has gone next level with Sabor’s brand new offerings at BB&T Ballpark, including Chicken Empanadas with Rosada Sauce, Elote Loco which is corn on the cob spiced up with cheese, mayo, and chili powder, their award-winning Nachos, as well as tacos and chips.

Cost: $5

(2) Birdsong

What to order: All Knight Long

All Knight Long was unveiled in 2017 at BB&T Ballpark. It is a blonde ale that is light and easy to drink — all night long, if you wish. Other beers available are the new Rewind Lager, and popular staples Higher Ground IPA, Paradise City session IPA, and the classic Jalepeño Ale.

Cost: Regular draft is $8.50 and souvenir draft is $11.00; 16oz cans available for $9.00

(3) NoDa Brewing Co.

What to order: Brizo Craft Spiked Seltzer in raspberry lemon or ginger lime

What makes these natural-ingredient seltzers so great is they already have 4.8% alcohol in them, about as much as a lager. They stand on their own to be consumed individually — but will mix well with most any gin or vodka, which will be an option at the stadium. That just made your mixed drink that much more special.

Cost: $9.00 at the Circle K Bar; $16 for the ginger/lime with Titos Lemonade or the raspberry with a margarita. The mixed drinks are served in a mason jar.

(4) Olde Mecklenburg Brewery

Captain Jack Pilsner and Hornet’s Nest Hefeweizen and Copper will also be available on draft at their kiosk.

Cost: $7

(5) Fresh Market

What to order: The watermelon and feta salad with basil and mint

This light and hydrating option comes in a handy walkable cup, making it easier to eat without spilling especially when your hands are full. There’s also a new Thai Noodle salad with shrimp, also served in a cup. Applegate Farms provides all-natural hormone-free meats for the hot dogs and hamburgers from the stadium’s concessions, if you’re looking for a classic snack.

Cost: $5.50
