What are you ... Jeff Jackson? 3 questions for a state senator
Let the informal self-assessment continue.
State Sen. Jeff Jackson, the dynamic representative of District 37 in Mecklenburg County, is next up after C5’s chat with Mayor Dan Clodfelter.
How it works: Three questions for one quick glimpse into a local celebrity’s personal life.
The questions:
- What are you reading?
- What are you listening to?
- What are you watching?
Ready? Let’s get started.
What are you reading?
I am reading the compilation “Moneyball for Government,” edited by Jim Nussle and Peter Orszag, that encourages government to use data, evidence and evaluation to support policy decisions.
Money to fund programs is scarce and needs to be supported by metrics, proving what is most effective. I am interested in improving the lives of young people, families and communities. There is good evidence-based information in this book.

What are you listening to?
I am listening to the new CD from Mumford & Sons, “Wilder Mind.” Even though Mumford & Sons has been at the forefront of the folk revival, this new CD is electric … literally.
Like Bob Dylan did in 1965, Mumford & Sons plug in and play electric instruments. The sound is different but the folk still remains in the lyrics.

What are you watching?
You can catch me watching clips of the TruTV reality series “Impractical Jokers” on YouTube. It follows four guys as they pressure each other into performing public pranks while being filmed by hidden cameras.
What makes it funny is that the four guys do not know the details of the prank until right before they perform it on strangers.

So what does all of this mean?
I think it means that I am unusually young to be serving in the State Senate.
