Around Town

Stonewall Street is, like, so popular. 3 developers fight over 1 lot, and other news

jkomer@charlotteobserver.com

If you haven’t noticed, Stonewall Street is kind of a big deal these days. New developments are popping up all over the place and developers have big plans for the uptown corridor.

Stonewall Street is like the super exclusive dance club in town with a long waiting list and developers are the ones in line trying to slip the bouncer $20 to get inside. (Is it obvious we don’t go to dance clubs often?)

Three developers are in a bidding war for a 3.8-acre parcel of land on Stonewall. The lot, currently covered by a large mound of dirt, is owned by the city.

The suitors:

– In April, Atlanta-based Pollack Shores, an apartment developer, offered $12.2 million.

– A few weeks later, Camden USA, also an apartment developer, offered $13.3 million.

Now Northwood Ravin — you guessed it: apartment developer — is offering to buy the land for $14.15 million. It is planning to build up to 50,000 square feet of retail and office space and 400 residential units.

//><!--The parcel will be advertised for an upset bid until mid-June. An upset bidder would have to offer just over $14.8 million.//--><!

Stay tuned …

In other news:

– The Charlotte Knights are planning a six-story office building with a terrace to view the stadium, seats, a year-round restaurant and underground parking.

– Circle University City Apartments, a major student housing complex near UNC Charlotte, is moving all of its residents out and making modifications to the floors of its units after a partial ceiling collapse “cosmetic damage” to the ceiling in January during a party, according to Heather Tamol with Circle University City. Must have been some party. All residents have to move out by June 2.

Wooden Robot, a new brewery specializing in Belgian-style beers, will open in South End around the end of June. It plans to offer a saison and a pale ale year-round and a rotation of other styles. Hooray beer!

– Kandy Bar, an upscale, small-plate dessert wine bar and lounge (that’s a mouthful) is coming this fall or winter to the EpiCentre. It will be on the third floor, next to the Vault.

– Which Wich, the make-your-own sandwich chain, will bring its brown bags to Overstreet Mall uptown this summer.

This was AMAZING! #whichwich #foodattack Too full though..

– VisArt video store will move from its current Elizabeth location to a new one on Eastway Drive at the beginning of September. The new location will be at 3104 Eastway Drive.

Something we missed? Let us know.
