Kindred’s cocktails pack a punch this season
A new season means a new cocktail menu. Kindred, Davidson’s newest Main Street addition, rolled out a new selection of libations inspired by spring vibes and featuring spring flavors. The menu takes interesting spins on classic cocktails. Kenny Hanlon, bartender extraordinaire and the brains behind the concoctions, says some of the drinks and ingredients may be unfamiliar, but you won’t be disappointed.
Here’s a breakdown on what you should be drinking this season.
Bluebird: Dolin dry vermouth, Cappalletti, Cardamaro, lime, celery bitters, sparkling water
This selection follows the new trend of shims, or low-alcohol cocktails. Enjoy a couple of these highly-sipable drinks.
Pimm’s Cup: Pimm’s No. 1, gin, cucmber, mint, lemon, ginger ale
A Pimm’s Cup is traditionally garnished over-the-top, and Kindred’s version is no different. In the words of Hanlon, this cocktail is “crushable.”

Star Daisy: Gin, house-made grenadine, Calvados (apple brandy), lemon
This drink personifies summer. It’s classic, cool and a great showcase for the house-made grenadine.
Tortuga Amargo: Rum, Cynar, Falernum, lime
Try this cocktail if you’re a fan of daiquiris. On the sour side, the Tortuga Amargo is still wildly refreshing and my go-to.

Champs Elysees: Cognac, Chartreuse, lemon, Angostura bitters
It’s hard not to sound classy when you post up to a bar and order a Champs Elysees. This one is a riff off the classic sidecar.
Soigne West: Bourbon, Americano, Campari, grapefruit bitters
What’s in a name? This cocktail is bold, just like you would expect from a drink named Soigne West. If you’re a fan of a negroni, this will be your next drink of choice.
Copperhead: Rye Whiskey, sweet vermouth, Benedictine, lavender bitters
The Copperhead is based on an old drink called the Diamondback. Kindred’s take is a spring version of a Manhattan.
Barkeep’s Choice: Anything goes
Never overlook this option. The skilled bar staff will ask what you like as a starting point, though they will make anything if that’s what you prefer. “I hope that we can get people’s trust that way,” Hanlon said.
