What inspires Garrett Tichy? 3 awesome questions

Continuing the weekly series of informal self-assessment, C5 sits down with another Charlotte notable to ask those three intriguing questions:

(1) What are you reading?

(2) What are you listening to?

(3) What are you watching?

We will take the answers to these three questions and find the meaning, theme or message.

Up this week is the overly awesome Garrett Tichy, the person behind #WeLoveCLT, SMPL Coworking Software and Hygge Coworking in Charlotte, which brings people in the Charlotte community together to find what loves and passions drive us and inspire others.

What are you reading? I am reading articles from the online anthology magazine The Great Discontent. The Great Discontent website features interviews with people who create things … marketing- and design-centric. I find much inspiration from other people’s stories and they risks they endure. It energizes me.

What are you listening to?

I am listening to several podcasts … StartUp, Reply All, Nerdist, This American Life.

StartUp tells the story of how new businesses are launched. Reply All is all about the Internet.

Nerdist, led by the comedian Chris Hardwick, is a discussion of various topics between Hardwick and two of his “nerdy” friends. This American Life is the popular weekly public radio show that tells true stories about everyday people.

I also listen to gaming review podcasts. They are so fascinating and creative.

I usually listen to the podcasts while I am running. It is incredible how much you can learn during a run.

What are you watching?

I am mainly watching two shows on Netflix: the nature documentary “Life” and the live action series “Daredevil.”

“Life” is just so beautiful to watch and learn. “Daredevil” is just plain awesome.

But, mostly, I am watching my beautiful 4-month-old daughter. It is amazing how much she changes in just a short time. I love it.

So, together, what does all of this mean to Garrett as a self-assessment?

“I think it means people. I love people! There is so much to learn from meeting, talking with and listening to people,” Garrett said. “Education does not end with school. I want to be smart. Other people are the key to that.”

No debating that assessment. Garrett provides that opportunity to learn from other people with #WeLoveCLT’s monthly speaker series. Awesome.
