How would you show Charlotte off to the (Snapchat) world?
Snapchat has fun new feature in which users from designated cities share a look into their daily lives.
(What’s Snapchat? It is a popular app among teenagers and anyone who thinks that they’re still a teenager — like me.)
Over the past month, users from San Francisco, London, Charleston and other cities have shared a look into each area’s culture and lifestyle.
Seeing as how Snapchat already has a “Queen City” filter that Charlotte users can apply to their photos, we may see our own city story soon. If you’re like me, you’ve already planned what you’re going to submit to a crowdsourced view of Charlotte life.
That got us thinking here at CharlotteFive: What glimpses of Charlotte would you give to someone who has never been here?
I asked six locals to weigh in:
(1) Freedom Park/The Summit Room
“Freedom Park is a great place to take an out-of-towner (especially if they’re from the North) to show off one of Charlotte’s best assets – our weather.
“On a nice day, there’s always something going on, from art festivals to a friendly tennis match. Plus it’s located right next to one of my favorite restaurants, The Summit Room. Enjoying the delicious small plates and cocktails (my favorite is the Blueberry Smash) on the patio is actually my favorite outdoor activity.” – Cathleen Foley

(2) USNWC
“The (U.S. National) Whitewater Center. It’s a nice blend of … outdoor activity and ‘going out.’ It’s also unique because it (features) a man-made river and … it’s an outdoor oasis near a major metro-area.” – Sebastian Williams

(3) A brewery
“There are so many places I take people but I would show people a brewery. Usually NoDa, but now Sycamore Brewing is making the list because of the patio.” – Lizzy Guterma

(4) Romare Bearden Park
“Romare Bearden Park. Since it is centrally located, it always feels like there is something to do. You can sit and relax, feed off of uptown’s energy, or listen to a ballgame.
“You have all the pubs, places to walk to and the light-up fountains. Plus an early morning run/workout through the park is always invigorating.” – Evan De Gorter

(5) Wing Haven
“Wing Haven Gardens and Bird Sanctuary in the heart of Myers Park. It is truly gorgeous and Southern. It is a perfect Charlotte showcase.” – Jessica DeVore

(6) Plaza Midwood
“Plaza Midwood is a great taste of Charlotte. It is one of the most well-rounded neighborhoods. It has a local feel with great food, the best bookstore (Book Buyers), art, a variety of bars and late-night spots that are all within walking distance.” – Chris Cureton
