Why Eastover loves Laurel Market
Laurel Market is a heart-warming success story: Former Garinger High teacher Ronald Hardman put every cent he had – all $9,000 – into the business in 1991.
At first it struggled. But then his daughter, Susan, introduced the deli that changed the face of Eastover’s favorite neighborhood market. Her commitment to local produce and fresh ingredients has remained the hallmark for the last 24 years. Sister Jenny handles the business side.
The family has visions of expansion, with rumors swirling about a second location breaking ground soon. Stay tuned. Until then, here are 5 reasons you must visit this classic Charlotte market:
(5) Gourmet Coffee
The selection is endless, highlighted by local favorites Freedom Fresh Roasts and Dilworth Coffee.
Added bonus: Sugar, cream and blue agave honey served on a lazy susan makes you feel right at home.
(4) Local mystique
The deli is filled with everything from egg salad wraps to sesame ginger noodles. The rice krispy treats are homemade and the Tyrrell’s baked English crisps are way better than a bag of Doritos.
Added bonus: The most popular item on the menu, the “Super Kale Salad,” is made fresh daily.
(3) Specialty sandwiches
A must have: The meatloaf with cheddar, onion, tomato, lettuce, mayo and mustard.
Added bonus: One sandwich is enough for two people.
(2) Beer & wine
From hoppy IPA’s to French Bordeaux, the beer and wine selection will broaden your horizons.
Added bonus: Coconut Sake!
(1) Family Owned
Ronald Hardman is the salt of the earth, a southern gentleman that cares about his customers. His daughters are living proof that Laurel Market is a true family affair.
Added bonus: Susan makes your sandwich, Jenny rings it up.
