Hey Charlotte, Postmates starts delivering sushi & pills to your door next week

Picture it: Charlotte. May 14, 2015.

After a l

The Cowfish

But it’s not easy. Driving is exhausting and, some say, harmful to the environment. The excuse you give yourself: “Why should I contribute more to global warming by releasing more carbon emissions into the ether? It’s irresponsible.”

Instead, you grab your iPhone or Android (we don’t discriminate), perform the finger calisthenics required to select an app and find someone else to do it for you. Enter “Postmates,” the logistics delivery service that dispatches couriers who deliver items right to your door.

You find The Cowfish, order your meal, pay for it and, within whatever amount of time it takes the guy or gal to get there, your sushi turns up at your doorstep.

Life of leisure Postmates is expanding into the Queen City. Now you can order your takeout, groceries and prescriptions instead of actually going to pick these things up yourself. That’s right: No longer will you have to subject yourself to the pains of dealing with the presence of strangers in public, waiting in line or (GASP) speaking to a checkout person.

Delivery zone

Postmates’ initial service area will include uptown, Myers Park, Cotswold, Sedgefield, Plaza Midwood, Stonehaven, University City, Dilworth and Elizabeth. (Sorry South End)

April Conyers, a Postmates spokeswoman, sums up the service this way: “This means Amelie’s on-demand, The Cowfish without leaving home, groceries from Whole Foods at the touch of a button…”

(Note to self: Look up Charlotte’s obesity rate)

Here’s how the company plans to entice you next week – From 11 a.m.- 9 p.m. May 14 – 17, Postmates will offer a free pint of ice cream on demand for customers who download the app. You can add your flavor choice and request a Postmate stranger/courier to travel to the nearest market to pick up Haagen Dazs or Ben & Jerry’s. The entire order is free.

— The first 500 customers in Charlotte (that means you download the app and enter the code CHAVIP) get a $50 delivery credit. Credit expires June 15.

— Free delivery on ALL orders through May 31 – After May 31, deliveries start at $5. You can pay for everything in the app, including the tip, “so you never have to run out and get cash.” In fact, you’ll never have to run anywhere ever again.
