National Doughnut Day comes around for seconds - And so does the CharlotteFive staff [Video]
Early June rolls around and everyone gets excited for the chance to enjoy a morning (or a day, if you do it right) filled with doughnuts. The first Friday of June is always National Doughnut Day, but did you realize this day of doughnut goodness comes twice a year? I know, cheers all around.
There is still hope for those of you who missed out in the summer, as Nov. 5 is also National Doughnut Day. So get out there and enjoy a doughnut as a reward for remembering to turn your clocks back this Sunday.
The June version of the day does actually come with some historical context. It was created by the Salvation Army back in 1938 to honor the Dough Lassies, a group of volunteers who made doughnuts for the soldiers serving overseas.
The November version, well, it was just completely made up. When it comes to doughnuts though, hard to argue that two is not better than one.
In honor of the holiday, Alicia Thomas, Tyler Blackshaw, Jen Rothacker, and Caroline Portillo sat down in the video above to taste some of Charlotte’s best and most unique doughnuts.
