We’re hiring at Charlotte Five – and you could be our next perfect fit.
C5 needs two more producers/editors and more freelancers. We figured the folks who read C5 everyday would know just what we’re looking for.

Charlotte 5 Producer/Editor
Do you love to play in your own sandbox? We are looking for a bold person to lead CharlotteFive.com, a hyperlocal website and newsletter geared toward the Millennial audience (although plenty of others love it.) The site mixes local news told through a Millennial lens with non-traditional stories, from food reviews to experiences to profiles to essays.
C5 craves a leader who is always innovating new ideas, sees the long game and makes it fun for others to join the vision. It needs a person that loves local, local, local and has the wordsmith skills to convey that love.
Do you post huge news in your life on Instagram before you call your own mother? That’s the kind of social media DNA this job needs. You’ll be in charge not only of creating and curating content, but for making sure everybody else knows all about it – and we’re not just talking about on Twitter. The person for this job loves people and will be the face of C5 around town.
We are looking for a big personality that isn’t afraid to show it off. We want somebody to own it.
Sounds fun, right? It’s a blast, but it’s also demanding. Core responsibilities include:
– Populating website M-F with five stories. Requires sharp writing, editing and photo skills. Excellent judgment of journalistic standards and sense of audience is a must.
– Crafting daily newsletter filled with voice and clickable links.
– Managing and growing a diverse freelance base.
– Spreading the C5 word through social media
– Marketing, including attending events around town and possibly holding a C5 event
– Ability to navigate (or quickly learn how to navigate) WordPress, Mailchimp
– Innovating new directions
– Education: College graduate preferred
– 2-5 years work experience, ideally in marketing/communication/journalism/etc.

Freelancers
We seek sharp writers who love to talk about Charlotte. If you’re a devoted C5 reader, you know we have an eclectic mix, from takeouts on the news to original pieces. We love the original stuff — experiences (think beer crawl or a new thrift shop), people profiles, shopping, restaurants, trends, personal essays. Anything you think a C5 audience would want to read. The pieces should be short – 500 words or less – and include photos, when possible.
