#FollowFriday: Why you should follow Jenifer Daniels
In my continuing search to find Social Media bosses, Jenifer Daniels is a shoo-in for the title. Daniels is the CEO of Good&Smart, a PR and marketing firm, and is organizing GoodCamp, an “unconference” (it’s cheaper, with a flexible agenda) for non-profits. She boasts more than 8,000 Twitter followers and has an award-winning talk show on SiriusXM. Plus, she’s an adjunct communications faculty member at UNCC.

Q. Why have you found success on social media?
I am naturally an introvert. I find it hard to network in real life and sites like Twitter and LinkedIn allow me to demonstrate thought leadership.

Q. What bugs you about social media?
I don’t like the limited context of “text only” social media. Thank goodness we now have video and imagery to accompany.
Q. Tips on how to stay authentic in a content-driven world?
Whew, that is a hard one…because everyone wants to present their “best face” and they often do it in absence of their “true face.” My advice: be vulnerable. It’s okay to say “I don’t know” or to let your guard down. Sharing with others and not expecting anything in return is also huge.

Q. Tell us about GoodCamp – a great name, btw.
I am hosting the second #GoodCamp. It’s an unconference for nonprofit professionals fusing PR, marketing and technology. It’s co-sponsored by Queen City Forward and will take place April 18th. We’d love for folks to attend and pitch a session because attendees get to pick the agenda, not me.
Our intent is to create our own sharing economy and safe space for folks working on behalf of social good in Charlotte. Space is limited to 75 attendees and tickets are available right now at goodcamp.org.

Q. What is your current favorite app to use on your phone?
I have a few but my favorite app (right now) is Elevate. It’s a brain-training app that challenges you to play 3 games each day to help improve your memory, recall, comprehension and more. I have a lot going on with my startup, teaching and my family, so this helps me keep my brain in working order.
Q. What spring-time Charlotte event are you most looking forward to?
As a new runner, I look forward to the Girls On The Run 5K. I love spending the time with my daughter and hundreds of other girls and women (and I won’t forget dads too!) all over Charlotte. I love that I can train with my big girl and see her smile as she crosses the finish line.
