How The People’s Market is bringing a little bit of everything to Dilworth this month
“We truly want to be a neighborhood hub,” said People’s Market owner Cory Duran. “This is The People’s Market Dilworth. And we want to embody Dilworth.”
The all-in-one coffee shop/market/casual eatery is expected to open Oct. 31 at 1315a Scott Ave.
How did this idea come about exactly? Duran was actually inspired by Amelie’s and Rhino Market.
“When I was writing my book, “Random Thoughts From A Random Guy,” I wrote it in Amelie’s,” said Duran. “That vibe inspired me because I would go there in the morning, eat a pastry, drink tea or coffee and write. Then I would go get a drink at Rhino Market in the afternoon and continue writing.”
Here’s what you can expect at The People’s Market when it opens this month:
Coffee
“We’re definitely bringing local coffee back to Dilworth,” said Duran.
The People’s Market will be partnering with Charlotte Coffee Company, which will handle the coffee products behind the bar including cold brew and espresso.

On the retail side, they’ll partner with local and regional coffee vendors including Pure Intentions.

Beer and wine
According to Duran, there will be a coffee side as well as a craft beer side at the bar. The People’s Market will also have wine behind the bar along with retail wine.
“We’re going to try to do a tap takeover down the road to bring local breweries to Dilworth,” said Duran. “We’ll have 10-12 taps for that brewery and do it once a month over a weekend span. One month it could be Sycamore Brewing and the next month it could be Birdsong.”
Duran said that at this space, they’ll have both a “six pack and chill” vibe — which means you can come in, grab a six pack, eat a sandwich and crank out some work — as well as a “Netflix and chill” vibe — which means you can grab a bottle of wine, frozen pizza from local eateries like Pasta & Provisions and dessert, and head home.

“You’re going to have a little bit of everything here,” Duran said.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner
The People’s Market will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Expect items such as salads, prepared foods, sandwiches and treats from local bakeries including cake, cookies and cupcakes. King of Pops and Two Scoops Creamery will also have sweets inside the space.

Duran said they are going to possibly have sushi in the future and experiment with making a sushi donut.
A mixed vibe
The People’s Market is going to offer a variety of music inside including everything from Spanish, to hip-hop to Frank Sinatra.
“While you’re ordering your espresso, you’ll wake up to some really fun tunes in the morning,” said Duran. “There will be slower music in the afternoon and then it will pick back up at night.”
They’ll have WiFi and plenty of seating including work stations, community tables, benches and booths. There will also be a covered patio and fireplace outside.
Fairwood Construction LLC and D3 Studio were responsible for the exterior and interior of the building. Check out more of the interior here.
Next door will be The People’s Market’s sister concept, a craft cocktail lounge called The Queen & Glass, scheduled to open in late November. Cheers to Dilworth!
