(1) Get Crafty at Red Clay Ciderworks
Thursday, 7-10 p.m. $35/$45, Red Clay Ciderworks, 245 Clanton Road
Is there any drink better to have than cider on the first day of fall? Grab a pint and get into the Halloween spirit at Red Clay’s craft night led by Chrissy’s Custom Creations. A door hanger will feature a stack of pumpkins on one side and a snowman on the other to combine Halloween and Christmas spirits.
(2) Close Out Summer with the BYOB Competition and Fall Finale Festival
Friday-Saturday, Free. U.S. National Whitewater Center. 5000 Whitewater Center Pkwy.
Fall Finale will be a festival to remember. Watch or participate in the BYOB (build your own boat) Competition, sample cider and relax on the lawn. You can also take part in the Dirty Dozen Obstacle Adventure Race through the trail system, a music performance or yoga under the trees. It’s a great way to close out summer.
(3) Crown the Best at Charlotte’s Grilled Cheese Fest
Saturday, $35+. noon-5 p.m. South End, 1441 S. Tryon St.
Feast on samples of gooey, melty grilled cheese creations made by CLT’s best chefs and then vote for the BEST grilled cheese in Charlotte. Brews, music and activities are included. General admission gets you 1 p.m. entry, unlimited grilled cheese served in quarter samples, six drink tickets, and voting tickets.
(4) Sip Your Way Through the Ballantyne Wine Festival
Saturday, 2-7 p.m. $30+. 14825 Ballantyne Village Way.
Expand your palate as you sip your way through a huge selection of wines from local, regional and national vineyards at Ballantyne Wine Festival. General admission tickets get you eight wine tastings, a signature tasting glass, live music and entertainment. Get tickets here.
(5) Pick a Pumpkin at Carrigan Farms
Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. $10. Carrigan Farms, 1261 Oakridge Farm Hwy., Mooresville.
Head out to Carrigan Farms for the perfect fall day—hayrides, fresh apple cider and picking out the perfect pumpkin! Hayrides to the pumpkin patch at Carrigan Farms (for both kids and adults) start Oct. 6 and are offered 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Wagons depart every 15 minutes and the ride is $10 by cash or check. The ride also gets you to the petting zoo and a taste of fresh apple cider.
