Hattie’s Tap & Tavern: A pretty great way to spend a day
When I go to a neighborhood bar, my top two priorities are: (1) To enjoy my time with friends; (2) To quietly enjoy the atmosphere passing. Hattie’s Tap & Tavern near Plaza Midwood and NoDa can provide both.
The red building with the bar’s signature multicolored hummingbird can’t be missed once you know it’s there.
I started going to this dive bar not long after its grand opening in early October. I spent at least one day there a week until mid-November – when my wallet told me I had to make better financial decisions. I don’t have any regrets.
In those early days, Hattie’s only had 6 taps, a gravel back patio, memorabilia and televisions. Now there is so much more in such a small package.
Pros
● front and back patios
● ping pong
● multiple corn hole sets
● dog friendly
● 24 beer taps!
● a stage for live music and events
● retro game systems (NES, N64, arcade tower)
● free phone charging station
● Charlotte-themed local art and murals
● board games
● retro
Cons
● so many activities in such a small package. Okay, maybe that’s not so “con”
My POV
I thought Hattie’s was great before the upgrades made it even better. I can see myself spending many summer nights on the patios and many lazy days enjoying the live music and playing table-top battleship.
My wallet better be ready.
Hattie’s is located at 2918 The Plaza.
