The C5 Checklist: 5 things you should do this weekend | Feb. 24-26

Happy weekend! There are plenty of festivities going on thanks to the CIAA tournament (you can take your pick here). Still have some free time? Here are five other things to do this weekend:

(1) Take a deep breath

Zen out with Putting the OM in kOMbucha, a yoga class with Heather Jewett. On Feb. 25, get your morning yoga on while Jewett teaches from 10-11 a.m. at Lenny Boy Brewing Co. The cost of the class is $5, which also gets you a 6 oz. beer or kombucha. Twenty percent of proceeds will support the Men’s Shelter of Charlotte. 3000 S. Tryon St.

(2) Embrace your inner fratty-ness.

TyberPalooza awaits! Indulge in flip cup, cornhole tournaments and music from bands and DJs from Feb. 24-25 at Tyber Creek Pub. A weekend pass is $10. 1933 South Blvd.

(3) Kickstart home project inspiration

The Southern Spring Home & Garden Show has arrived. This annual event celebrates the new season and associated gardening and home improvement projects (not to mention cooking demos) from Feb. 24-26. Exhibitors include Ace Roofing & Windows, All American Decorative Concrete and Serpaco Painting. Also: Register here for a chance to win a $500 shopping spree. Hours and admission prices vary. The Park Expo and Conference Center, 800 Briar Creek Road.

(4) Learn about what you’re sipping on

On Feb. 24, explore “Whiskey of Japan” at The Gallery. Follow along with Gardner Dunn, Suntory Ambassador, as you are taken through Suntory’s Hakushu, Yamazaki and Chita distilleries via a tasting of Suntory Whisky Toki, Hakushu 12-year, and Hibiki Suntory Whisky Japanese Harmony. This event is part of the monthly series with The Whiskey Club of Ballantyne, a tasting open to the public. 6:30 p.m. $65. Reserve your spot by calling (704) 248-4100. The Ballantyne Hotel & Lodge, 10000 Ballantyne Commons Pkwy.

If you’re looking for something less formal, don’t overlook the Winestore in SouthPark. Pick up on wine terminology from the wine keys throughout the space, and get a taste from one of two wine-tasting machines.

(5) Don’t overlook the after party

Studio Party’s After Party at McColl Center is Feb. 25. Tickets begin at $25 and get you access to beer and wine, radioactive macaroons and moon pies, art by more than 80 McColl Center alumni artists, and a “funked-up dance party” with DJ That Guy Smitty. Ticket proceeds benefit McColl Center. 9:30 p.m.-midnight. McColl Center for Art + Innovation, 721 N. Tryon St.
