#C5 Checklist: 5 things you should do this weekend | March 9-12
If you see a bunch of folks wearing green T-shirts wandering (stumbling?) around uptown this weekend, don’t be alarmed — it’s just Rich and Bennett’s famous St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl.
That’s one thing you can do this weekend. But if you’re looking for something different, here are five other options.
(1) Get a history lesson at Blue Blaze Brewing.
Thursday, March 9, 6:30 p.m. Free. Blue Blaze Brewing, 528 S. Turner Ave.
Join Historian Dr. Tom Hanchett at Blue Blaze to learn the story of Charlotte’s historic West End, discover the roots of Johnson C. Smith University, and explore how the area has changed over 150 years. Arrive early — the first 50 beers are on Berkshire Hathaway.
(2) Listen & Learn at Binaries, a Charlotte Storytellers Showcase.
Friday and Saturday, March 10 and 11, 7:30 p.m. $7+. The Third Place Coffee Shop, 1609 E. Fifth St.
Charlotte Storytellers are back at it at their seventh showcase, Binaries. Eight Charlotteans will tell true stories on how we construct divisions, form divides, and often see things in black and white. This is a BYOB and BYOP (Bring Your Own Pillow) event.
(3) Help end homelessness at the HousingFest concert.
Saturday, March 11, 8 p.m. $39+. Fillmore Charlotte, 820 Hamilton St.
HousingFest, organized by the Urban Ministry Center, unites people to end homelessness in Charlotte through the power of music. This year’s line-up features St. Paul and the Broken Bones.
(4) Race around Symphony Park for the RunJenRun 5K.
Saturday, March 11, 8 a.m. $35. Symphony Park, 4400 Sharon Road.
Lace up your sneakers for the fifth-annual RunJenRun 5k at Symphony Park. Proceeds benefit GoJenGo Foundation, a community of caring people brought together for the common purpose of assisting people in their fight against breast cancer. The day will be packed with fitness, free beer and fun zones.
(5) Shop pop-up doughnuts & vinyl on Second Sundays.
Sunday, March 12, noon. Free. Tip Top Daily Market, 2902 The Plaza.
On the second Sunday of the month, Tip Top Daily Market is the place to hit in Plaza Midwood. Stop by for Pepperbox Doughnuts and Digger’s Delight, a vinyl record swap and sale pop-up.
