9 ways to get your shamrock on and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Charlotte
From green beer to green rivers and parades to pub crawls, Charlotte knows how to throw a St. Patrick’s Day party.
Take your pick from the nine events below to celebrate everyone’s favorite Irish holiday.
(1) Go Green at the U.S. National Whitewater Center.
Saturday, March 11, starting at 10 a.m. Free. U.S. National Whitewater Center, 5000 Whitewater Center Pkwy.
The USNWC has planned a doozy of a day — wear your whitest whites to duck, dip and dodge green dye as you weave through Color Me Green 5K trail race and then kick back with live tunes, a corn hole tourney ($30) and a very green river.
(2) Go Irish with the World’s Largest Pub Crawl.
Saturday, March 11, noon. $20+. 219 E. 7th St.
When we say largest pub crawl, we really mean it. Come celebrate St. Patrick’s Day a wee bit early with 20,000 of your closest friends at Rich & Bennett’s 17th Annual Pub Crawl. Grab your T-shirt (that’s your ticket) online and meet at the Pub Crawl Parking Lot (across the street from 7th Street Public Market) between noon and 3 p.m.
(3) Embark on the St. Patrick’s Day Bar Crawl at the EpiCentre.
Friday, March 17, 5 p.m. $15. EpiCentre, 210 E. Trade St.
Take to Uptown this St. Patrick’s Day and join a bar crawl through the EpiCentre’s best watering holes, like Bubble, Strike City, Suite, Whisky River, and Lucky’s Bar and Arcade. Check in at Rooftop 210.
(4) Join the Charlotte St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
Saturday, March 18, 11 a.m. Free. Starts at N. Tryon and Ninth Street.
Charlotte’s 21st-annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival is a must-do. The parade will start promptly at 11 a.m. and move down Tryon Street and Third Street uptown. The festival is located on South Tryon Street between Third and Stonewall and lasts from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. The fest will feature Irish music, Irish dancers, bagpipers and an Irish/Celtic vendor market, kid-friendly activities, and water and drinks for all.
(5) Toast to St. Patrick’s Day at an Irish whiskey tasting and meal.
Friday, March 17, 6:30 p.m. $50. Gallery Restaurant, The Ballantyne Hotel, 10000 Ballantyne Commons Pkwy.
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with Irishman and whiskey connoisseur Fergus O’Kane. Sample several whiskeys (Jameson Caskmates, Redbreast 12-year, Green Spot and Midleton Irish Whiskey) paired with Chef de Cuisine Matt Tilman’s Irish creations. Reservations required — 704-248-4100.
(6) Join the Broken Spoke’s St. Patrick’s Weekend Extravaganza.
March 17-19. The Broken Spoke, 227 Southside Dr.
The Broken Spoke is doing the most to celebrate St. Pat’s by throwing a weekend-long party. Expect lots of libations, live tunes, Irish dancing, snacks galore and even an inflatable Irish pub.
(7) Get your Sham-ROCK on at City Lights Rooftop Bar.
Friday, March 17, 5-11 p.m. Free. City Lights Rooftop Bar, 555 S. McDowell St.
City Lights is doing a sneak peek of the rooftop before the summer season kicks off. Join them for Sham-ROCK, an evening of glowing green cocktails, a DJ and more.
(8) Shake your shamrocks at Piedmont Social House.
Friday, March 17, 4 p.m. Piedmont Social House, 2135 Arsley Town Blvd.
Piedmont Social House is throwing down for St. Paddy’s with green brews galore, drink specials, live music, a beer pong tourney, bocce, gold coin chocolates and more.
(9) Feel the luck at D9’s St. Patrick’s Day Party.
