What local TV show is more popular in CLT than The Voice, The Good Wife ... but not NCIS?

The Story

February sweeps results for local TV news are in and the king of news is … WSOC-TV.

Astounding Fact

WSOC’s 6 p.m. newscast is more popular than any primetime TV show in Charlotte except NCIS with 157,600 viewers, a 7% increase from a year ago.

Other key findings

– WSOC rules every major time slot: 6 a.m., noon, 6 p.m. and 11 p.m.

– Its 10 p.m. broadcast aired on independent station WAXN also rules.

– WBTV came in second in all categories.

– WCNC finished in third.

– Nationally, Charlotte viewers choose ABC news over the other networks.

One other interesting TV news tidbit

WBTV has a new set, which is big news in the TV world. The news director calls it “new, modern and clean” — like Charlotte. Its hallmark is a 20-foot-wide billboard for live feeds and stills. WBTV won’t say how much it costs, but typically new sets run at least a half million dollars.
