Weather app smack down: Which TV station gets it right?
Three weather geeks at the Observer did a weather app smack down:
WBTV
– Front page: Busy, with three-day forecast
– Radar: Widest view, taking in the foothills and stretching deep into the Piedmont. One knock: Current temperature too small.
– Social: Easy to share photos
Overall: Good job packing relevant information onto front page
WSOC
– Push alerts: Charges a $5 one-time fee for alerts going beyond standard storm watches.
– Ease on eyes: Easy-to-read big numbers and easy pull-down menu.
– Social: Direct links to Facebook and other social media plus. Easy to send photos. Pictures could use more caption info.
Overall: Easiest to learn and easiest to use
WCNC
– Front page: Packed; maybe even too busy, with 7-day forecast
– Radar: Smallest range of the 3 apps, reaching from Gastonia to Midland.
– Social: Easy to share and upload and send photos
Overall: Most action-packed front page
