More golf, beer and Panthers: 5 development news flashes

The latest in Charlotte development news:

Golf entertainment center: WSOC is reporting that Charlotte may land a Topgolf entertainment complex, possibly where the blighted Coliseum shopping center sits on Independence Blvd. These massive complexes, with spots in Scottsdale, Austin and Virginia Beach, are like a video game version of a golf range.

If an amateur sports arena gets built at the Bojangles Coliseum complex, this would be a serious injection of fun to a corridor that has seen better days.

Gentrifying Belmont: The historic Charlotte neighborhood is getting new attention from developers. Richmond-based Clachan Properties wants to take the old Hawthorne Mills property and develop 150 apartments and office space.

Across the street, two developers have bought the old Kellogg’s plant and are considering adding a brewery or restaurant.

Panthers training camp: Carolina will continue to hold its training camp at Wofford, the college in Spartanburg, S.C. The team has agreed to a  5-year extension of its contract.

Fresh Market: Opening its third Charlotte store March 4 in the Promenade on Providence shopping center.

Toys & Co.: Gone from Park Road Shopping Center, consolidating its Charlotte operations at its Cotswold store.
