Get iced: Who has the best ice in Charlotte?

The Story

The Facts

– There are 5 main types of ice found at most restaurants: cube, half cube, nugget, flake and gourmet. Hubee D’s went with nugget. Thank goodness.

– My ice people tell me that nugget ice has street names like: chewblet, pearl, gem, pellet, chiplet and chunklet. Yes, I have ice people.

– Nugget ice has an additional economic benefit for restaurants. Since customers use more nugget ice than cube ice, restaurants save money on soda costs.

Quotes

“Oh yeah, people love the ice. Best ice in town.” Hubee D’s employee

“One manufacturer calls the ice-loving South the ‘Chew Belt.'” – Wall Street Journal

One common misconception is that Hubee D’s ice is made by the soda machine. False. It’s created by the ice maker in the back and then poured into the soda machine.
