Two new hotels coming to Uptown: How will they compete?
The Story
Two new hotels are coming to uptown, part of a major complex led by Crescent Communities on Stonewall Street, next to the Westin.
The new hotels
– 300-400 hotel rooms, split between two hotels
– Crescent won’t say what kinds of hotels they’ll be
– The development will also feature a Whole Foods, apartments and retail.
The competition
We’re going to assume these will be higher-end hotels, considering the company they’ll be keeping (Westin next door, Whole Foods in the complex). Here’s a quick look at the high-end hotel competition in uptown:

C5’s Take
Charlotte is lacking in nice hotels, especially near the Convention Center. And if we ever want to host a Super Bowl, we’ll need at least 25,000 rooms. Right now, there are a little over 24K in Mecklenburg and only about 4,000 in uptown.
