Around Town

Where to find your new favorite bar-side fire pit

Say goodbye to those beautiful and rare 70-degree December temperatures in the Queen City. Winter has come, and we’re stuck in mid-50s and below until the end of February.

But don’t let the cold impede on your social life!

Bars all around Charlotte offer some cool fire pits and fireplaces to keep you warm while sippin’ on some craft beers with your friends. I’m already getting tired of those cramped bars where you’re stuffed in like a sardine having to wait 20 minutes for a drink, so here are spots around town where you can relax and get some fresh air while staying warm throughout the night.

Thomas Street Tavern

The outside back patio has heaters everywhere and blocks out any frozen temps.  There are bigger fire pits outside that seats around 10 people where you can enjoy the Reggae Thursday beats, and there’s even a smaller one next to the back bar for more intimate convos.

Selwyn Avenue Pub

Comfy couches and big screen TVs fill up this awesome patio space, plus there are plenty of fire pits and heaters to keep you warm. You have quick access to the outdoor bar, AND I hear that there is a great deal on late night pizzas: $8 for a large unlimited topping pizza after 10 p.m. if you eat in. I might pass out on a couch there afterward.

Sycamore Brewing

It’s already one of the most popular breweries in Charlotte, and with most of its space being outdoors, it’s great that they put some fire pits around the patio for you to enjoy those pitchers of Countryside IPA.

Fahrenheit

Fire pit with a view! Their long, glass-enclosed fire will keep you warm as you take that group picture with the uptown buildings behind you. Don’t let the fire burn your selfie stick, though.

Honorable mentions:

The Workman’s Friend. The outside back beer garden has a cool fireplace with small tables around it that’s perfect for a chill night.

Tyber Creek Pub. Although you might not need the outdoor garden fireplace after enjoying their whiskey inside.

131 Main on East Blvd. Every time I drive by their patio, people are always enjoying that fire pit.

Brazwells Premium Pub. Although they have a cool patio set-up with an outside bar and tall fire lanterns, it’ll take you forever to get back and forth from a bathroom break. You’ve been warned.

Craft Tasting Room & Growler Shop: For some crazy reason I still haven’t been here yet, but I hear they have a great pit outdoors from friends.
