Around Town

Some of the most amusing WiFi network names around Charlotte

I love when people take the slightest opportunity to express themselves and run with it. It reminds me of a point I took away from my first time at Creative Mornings Charlotte last week, when I watched a stranger, on a dare, sprint into the street uptown outside the Bechtler Museum and scream something into the abyss, like: “City of Charlotte! I am a creative being. You will bend to my will!”

It was magnificent. Aren’t we all creative beings? We create ideas, meals, schedules, businesses — and then there are the people who create more entertaining Internet network names than the rest of us. It’s the little things.

Some of my favorites:

At Fifth & Poplar Condominiums uptown

The clever play on song lyrics. (If you haven’t listened to “Pretty Fly for a White Guy,” here you go.)

At Settlers Place Condos uptown

The flashback to an Internet phenomenon featuring a dancing banana.

At Park Avenue Condominiums in Dilworth

The pirate-inspired exclamation that just makes people wonder, why?

At Magnolia 1420 in SouthPark

The slang phrase others can’t quite decipher but appreciate anyway.

At The VUE Charlotte

The ungrammatical, mildly hostile approach to your neighbors.

At Camden Grandview in South End

The seemingly nonsensical name selection that only builds the intrigue.

At Atherton Heights Townhomes in Dilworth

The tech-nerd angle that is so witty people want to thank you for making them chuckle.

What did I overlook? Tweet @Charlotte_Five. And, of course, don’t forget the Creative Mornings-inspired hashtag: #CharlotteIsCreative.

Because, when it comes to WiFi, it is.
