Sports Radio in Charlotte is bigger than you think
Clear Channel Radio announced in August that it would launch Charlotte’s first FM sports-talk radio station, giving the Queen City four stations, three of which are on the AM dial, completely devoted to sports talk.
While three of the four stations carry nationally syndicated shows, each station offers something for everyone. WFNZ 610 has local shows from 6am-7pm daily, while ESPN 730 combines local coverage from 1pm-7pm with popular national ESPN Radio shows Mike & Mike and The Herd. Both CBS Radio 1660 AM and Fox Sports Radio 98.7 FM offer a mix of national sports talk shows, so if you’re a transplant or are tired of hearing about the ACC, SEC, Panthers or Hornets, these are good options.
My personal favorites: The Mac Attack, Primetime, The Dan Patrick Show, Jay Mohr Sports, Mike & Mike.
Check out the stations schedules below. Local shows are in italics. Figure out what works best with your commute, work schedule, life (try online streaming), but know that you don’t have to listen to bad music or commercials when your show isn’t on.
