Charlotte’s favorite Christmas tunes are...
The Story
WKQC-FM (“K” 104.7) is Charlotte’s only station playing non-stop Christmas music, and it’s hauling in big ratings, reports Charlotte Observer Media columnist Mark Washburn.
The Facts
– WKQC began its Yuletide playlist the day before Thanksgiving. It will switch back to its top hits format Dec. 26.
– All Christmas all the time was a big thing in the Queen City several years ago. But other stations have since changed formats and WKQC sits on top.
— Thankfully, the station now waits until Thanksgiving. In past years, it revved up the holiday cheer right after Halloween.
— It’s a ratings bonanza: Last month, WKQC ranked No. 10 among CLT stations. This month: Likely No. 1.
— Seems like just about everybody listens to Christmas music on Christmas Eve: Ratings surge 582 percent.
It’s been almost a week of continuous Christmas music playing in my house and I’m slowly going insane
