Aug. 19: Mattie’s Diner looking for a new home
Soon you’ll have to find a new spot to grab that late-night meal after a concert.
Mattie’s Diner, the old-school spot right across from The Fillmore at the N.C. Music Factory, is on the lookout for a new home.
Its lease is up Sept. 30 and that little slice of the Music Factory will become the new headquarters for AvidExchange.
Some options:
– Move the diner — which owner Matt King found in a used car lot in New Jersey — to another neighborhood like Plaza Midwood, South End or NoDa.
– Sell the diner. “In the interest of saving the diner, that would be OK,” King told the Observer.
– Store the diner at the Music Factory while deciding what’s next.
King also plans to open another restaurant concept in the Music Factory, but details are scarce at this point.
TO THE JURY: The fate of CMPD officer Randall Kerrick is now in the hands of the jury. It will decide whether Kerrick used excessive force when he fatally shot an unarmed Jonathan Ferrell 10 times in 2013.

//><!--Today is the second day of the deliberations. To acquit Kerrick, the jury must unanimously find that he acted with a reasonable belief that Ferrell posed a threat to kill or seriously injure him or two other officers.//--><!
JUST ONE WORD – APARTMENTS: Apartment developers are sleeping quite well these days, according to this Ely Portillo column. And no wonder: New apartments are coming to Ballantyne and North Wendover Road, and two apartment complexes in southeast Charlotte were sold for a total of nearly $57 million.

PLAY NICE, UNION COUNTY: A Union County commissioner blasted the school board this week, calling them “jokers” and saying he was tired of all their “bullying and bull crap.” Commissioners were upset that the school board did not send anyone to the meeting to answer questions about a $1.2 million capital projects funding request to cover “emerging needs.”

The two bodies have been feuding for a while and this probably won’t help things.
