Aug. 31: Making history at the Levine Museum of the New South
“You have to do the things that give you oxygen. History gives me oxygen.”
That’s what Brenda Tindal told the Observer on the eve of being named the new historian at the Levine Museum of the New South. It will be officially announced today.
Tindal, 34, will be just the second person to hold the post since the museum opened its Seventh Street center in 2001. She follows the retiring Tom Hanchett. She’s a Charlotte native and a PhD candidate who teaches at UNC Charlotte.
“She is a warm, listening person who cares deeply about making history connect to people today,” Hanchett said.
PANTHERS CUT 8: And no, Corey Brown — he of the many drops — was not one of them, despite what some fans may be saying. The eight players cut Sunday: OT Tony Hills, LB Kevin Reddick, FB Lee Ward, WR Avius Capers, WR Paul Browning, DE Steve Miller, TE Dallas Walker and P Matt Wile.
The #Panthers have released eight players ahead of Tuesday’s 4:00 p.m. 75-man limit: http://t.co/6pD4rfoqKQ pic.twitter.com/q65kEkL4Wq

ROBERTS AND PEACOCK LOOKIN’ GOOD: Democrat Jennifer Roberts and Republican Edwin Peacock III are sitting pretty heading into the Charlotte mayoral primaries, according to a Charlotte Observer poll. Roberts led Democrats with 39 percent of likely Dem voters and incumbent Dan Clodfelter had 21 percent. Peacock led Scott Stone 44-26.
Early voting starts Thursday and the primary is Sept. 15.
PROMINENT PASTOR DIES: Bishop Phillip Davis, the founder and senior pastor of Nations Ford Community Church in Charlotte, was found dead in his home Saturday. He was apparently cleaning his pistol when it accidentally fired, striking him in the chest.
Today we mourn the loss of our very own Bishop Davis. We ask you to continue to lift up his family in prayer. pic.twitter.com/DUCe4xJbpZ — Nations Ford Church (@NationsFordClt) August 30, 2015
