Welcome to September. Here’s what you need to know to be Charlotte Smart today.

Charlotte Douglas International Airport remained the seventh-busiest airport in the world last year based on takeoffs and landings. IN THE WORLD. Now you know why those security lines can get out of control.

The airport had 545,178 takeoffs and landings last year, which is actually a 2 percent decrease from 2013. Chicago ranked the busiest in the world by takeoffs and landings, and Atlanta is the busiest based on passengers. Last year, 44.3 million passengers visited CLT, but that doesn’t rank in the top 10 in the world. It is good for No. 8 in the country, though.

Related: Here’s how to not be awful at the airport.

IT’S MILL TIME: A former cotton mill in West End is getting a face lift. Charlotte-based Argos Real Estate Advisers announced a plan Monday to turn the 180,000-square-foot Savona Mill at 528 S. Turner Street into offices, retail and residences. The first tenant? A brewery, of course — Blue Blaze Brewing is slated to open in spring 2016. Other tenants: a design company and an “incubator for food entrepreneurs.”

“POSSIBLE INVESTMENT FRAUD”: A Charlotte investment adviser, Richard Wyatt Davis Jr., is under investigation for “possible investment fraud,” according to a letter the Observer got its hands on. The U.S. Secret Service sent the letter and a questionnaire to people who may have invested with him. Fun fact: It may be best known for its duty to protect the president and vice president, but the Secret Service’s original mandate was to investigate the counterfeiting of U.S. currency.

CAROLINA VS. CAROLINA: Excited about Thursday night’s Belk College Kickoff football game between North Carolina and South Carolina at Bank of America Stadium? (Corey is.) Well this should get you even more excited: More games between the two are coming to Charlotte, according to Charlotte Sports Foundation executive director Will Webb. “We’re very close on a deal for at least two more games,” Webb told the Observer. The dates for those games aren’t yet set, but should be soon.

South Carolina’s players will be wearing a helmet sticker to honor the Charleston shooting victims.

PANTHERS GET A WR: In an effort to improve a receiving corps plagued with injuries and dropped passes, the Panthers traded for Seattle receiver Kevin Norwood. Carolina gave up a 2017 draft pick for the 6-2, 200-pound Norwood. He was a fourth-round pick last year and caught nine passes for 102 yards as a rookie.
