Watch today’s Democratic mayoral primary debate live here at 9 a.m.
Have you heard? The Democratic mayoral primary runoff election is Oct. 6 between incumbent Dan Clodfelter and Jennifer Roberts.
If you’re not sure who you want to vote for, this should help.
The two will debate this morning at 9 a.m. on WFAE’s Charlotte Talks. We’ll be there, too, and plan to live-stream the debate using Google Hangouts.
Check back here before 9 a.m. and look for the video embed below. After the debate (assuming everything works) the video will stay embedded in this post so you can watch later.
Beforehand, you can read more about the candidates here.
DUKE TO PAY: Duke Energy agreed to a $7 million settlement with the state Department of Environmental Quality for groundwater contamination issues at its 14 coal-fired power plants in N.C. But Duke isn’t admitting any wrongdoing. The settlement also calls for Duke to accelerate cleanup of four sites, which could cost $10 million to $15 million.
DO NOT ENTER: CMPD and the Charlotte City Council are discussing whether to create “public safety zones” — areas where people with past arrests can’t enter. Though controversial, it’s not exactly a new idea. There were “prostitution-free zones” in 2005 and an injunction against the Hidden Valley Kings gang in 2013.

“Truthfully, I don’t know if they will do any good,” said City Council member Claire Fallon, who chairs the public safety committee. “If someone doesn’t obey the law, do you think a safety zone will impress them?”
Valid point.
MMMM CHICKEN: Did you hear about the free fried chicken at Charlotte Douglas International airport? Last week, boxes of Bojangles’ chicken popped out of the baggage claim carousel while a hidden camera filmed it. It may not come as a surprise that Charlotte ad agency BooneOakley produced the commercial with Wheelhouse Media.
