Yogurt Drama: Stamos sacked as Dannon Oikos hires Newton to capture “brogurt” market

The Story

Dannon is launching a new yogurt, Oikos Triple Zero, and divorcing heartthrob John Stamos for the endorsement of Cam Newton.

The Facts

Grubstreet.com has coined the term “brogurt” for these new yogurts targeting young men. Currently, male buyers only account for 37% of yogurt sales.

– The new yogurt brand is named “Triple Zero” and stands for: zero added sugar, zero artificial sweeteners and zero fat.

– Oikos Triple Zero has 15 grams of protein. Flavor options include: Vanilla, Coconut Crème, Strawberry, Banana Crème, Mixed Berry and Peach.

– New ad campaign featuring Cam Newton is created by the ad agency Y&R Barcelona. The TV spots broke Jan 5th on the NFL Network and there will be additional TV media buys during the NFC and AFC Championship games.

Quotes

“We have ended our relationship with John Stamos. We had a great run with him.” Dannon’s VP-marketing, Art D’Elia told Ad Age.

“It’s funny because I really do find myself searching the grocery store for new protein snack options. Oikos Triple Zero was quite honestly right up my alley – not only because of its nutritional benefits, but because it tastes good too.” Cam Newton said in a statement.

C5’s Take:

Cam’s agent is killing it. Sure, his endorsements with Belk, Gatorade, Beats by Dre, GMC make sense. But, his latest endorsements of the cologne Drakkar Essence and Dannon Oikos are insane. We like it. Get it Cam. I also endorse the term “brogurt” – love it. All this said, John Stamos was a fantastic endorser and literally Greek.
