Trek to the highest and lowest points in Charlotte

You can ascend as high as 883 feet above sea level in Charlotte. After exploring the center of the city thanks to this handy-dandy treasure map from Jackie Brim, interim survey supervisor for the city of Charlotte,  I used the map to journey to the highest point in the city.

Which is just along Kelden Walker Lane, here, in the (rather hilly) Christenbury Hills neighborhood. The coordinates are 35.315 latitude, -80.815 longitude.

The view was: a lot of houses.

But here’s a little look from the “valley” below.

Disclosure: I’m not the first explorer here. Brad Panovich trekked out in 2012 with his GPS and located a nearby cul-de-sac. His report on the view: “Nope, this is all there is.”

The lowest point in Charlotte, about 10 miles away in the Fairfield neighborhood near PNC Music Pavilion, had the same appeal.

That spot is pinpointed in blue on the treasure map, and it was hard to tell exactly how I-485 affected that terrain. The coordinates: 35.322 latitude, -80.718 longitude. The height: 453 feet above sea level.

Nonetheless. Feast your eyes on the valley of the city.
