Cam’s accident intersection getting a makeover
The Story
The intersection of South Church and West Hill streets is getting some safety makeovers in the wake of Cam Newton’s accident there two weeks ago.
The Facts
– This uptown intersection near I-277 is ranked as the city’s fourth most dangerous. Newton got t-boned while driving down Church in his truck.
– Fixes include:
- New oversized stop sign on West Hill Street; will have reflective striping for night visibility
- Second sign on Hill alerting drivers a stop sign is coming up
- Repainting of crosswalk and stop bar on Hill
- New sign on Church alerting drivers to upcoming Hill intersection
- Repainting of skip lines for the three lanes on Church

C5’s Take
These fixes are small, but will hopefully provide some help. Bottom line: If you’re driving on S. Church, be cautious as you approach Hill Street. Folks constantly try to gun across Church to get onto I-277. The angles are deceptive and encourage risky maneuvers.
