If you’re looking for unique holiday gifts to get friends and family, you have good options in Charlotte.

Two Charlotte stores made a list of the 50 best local shops in the U.S. “for finding the perfect holiday gift” — and one landed in the top spot.

Paper Skyscraper in Dilworth was ranked No. 1 on the list, which compiled by Yelp and published on Mashable. The Boulevard at South End came in at No. 48.

Yelp compiled the list by ranking the highest rated businesses that fall under certain shopping categories with at least 15 percent of reviews mentioning the word “gift.”

I reached out to each store to find out what gifts they are most excited about this season:

Paper Skyscraper

“Our favorite gifts for this season include Cards Against Humanity (we are one of a handful of retail stores in the country where you will find it), beautiful coloring books for adults, and the exquisite S’well drinking bottles,” said Tim Hamilton.

The Boulevard at South End

“My favorites tend to be the Charlotte-themed gifts,” said Jennifer Branham. “It’s great to know that we are spreading the love of Charlotte through out the community and throughout the world. We have a lot of out of town customers shop for gifts to take back home with them.”

This Saturday is Small Business Saturday — a perfect day to check out these two local shops.

In other headlines …

– Another day, another plan to stop the I-77 toll lane project. This time, a state lawmaker says he’ll introduce a bill to reduce Charlotte’s voting power on a regional transportation board, which he said could make it easier to halt the project.

– Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton fed nearly 900 Charlotte children through his foundation on Monday night at the Fillmore. “There was turkey, there was dressing and there was dabbin’.”

– The Charlotte Knights created a Thanksgiving version of Drake’s “Hotline Bling” song with Homer the Dragon because … well, why not?

– Gov Pat might have a challenger in next year’s Republican primary. Former state Rep. Robert Brawley, who lives in Mooresville, is considering throwing his hat into the ring. In other Gov Pat news, he’s asking his Democratic challenger, Attorney General Roy Cooper, to oppose Obama in a transgender bathroom lawsuit. Coop said, Nah, I’m good.

– So about that unplanned Charlotte-Mecklenburg school board meeting yesterday: The board met behind closed doors for an hour and … that’s about it. No action on the CMS/Veritas Community School dispute over a vacant school building.
