//><!--(2) Made history in November when she became the 100th woman elected to U.S. Congress, taking the seat held for decades by fellow Dem Mel Watt. “I stand on the shoulders of the fearless women who shattered the glass ceiling,” Adams said.//--><!

//><!--(3) Raised by a single mother, who made a living as a domestic worker. “She scrubbed floors so I wouldn’t have to do it, so education is really important to me.”//--><!

(4) Graduated from North Carolina A&T State University and earned a Ph.D. in Art Education and Multicultural Education from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.

(5) Member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.

(7) Her early political career included the Greensboro school board.

(8) Famous for her colorful hats. She has more than 900. Unfortunately for her, hats are banned on the House floor.
