Dave and Allison Hamme plan to set their new brewery apart from the rest by crafting and releasing beers that tell unique stories. Their Vista India Pale Ale — which has already been released — was inspired by discoverer Hiram Bingham, who discovered Machu Picchu and its breathtaking vista in 1911.

The Hammes have been creating and brewing beer at home for over 25 years and believed they were too great not to share. In just a few months, the couple will open their Lake Norman-area brewery and tap room, Lost Worlds Brewing — a name that comes from Dave Hamme’s love of traveling and exploring the world.

“We want to be a place where people can come together and talk about their adventures over beer,” Hamme told CharlotteFive.

He grew up in Charlotte and made his way back after being away for some time. He and his wife moved to the Lake Norman area and said they wanted to contribute to the Lake Norman area.

When creating the brewery, the couple kept one thing in mind: “How can we be unique in the growing craft brewing scene?” They hired well-known local brewer Dave Gonzalez as their director of beer. Gonzalez has more than 23 years in the industry and was head brewer at Rock Bottom.

The interior of the 40-seat taproom will be decorated with artifacts and photos from all over the world in hopes that customers will be inspired to create their own travel adventures. Just outside will be a 3,000-square-foot, pet-friendly biergarten that will offer food trucks, outdoor games and more.

“We want to create an environment that feels like an explorers club of yesteryear,” Hamme said.

To keep their commitment of building community, the couple plans to collaborate with local nonprofits and donate 25 hours of space each year to various organizations in the area.

To give people a sneak peek into what’s to come, the brewery is working on collaboration releases with Rock Hill Brewing Company and Catawba Brewing. Those beers will be available this month in the taprooms of each brewery.

On Dec. 13, there will also be a special release party in conjunction with Catawba Brewing held at Catawba Brewing (933 Louise Ave.). The event will start at 5:30 p.m,. and proceeds will benefit Pat’s Place child advocacy center.
