Paper Plane Deli and Market is planning to add a little more neighborly charm — and some banging BLTs — to the Belmont neighborhood.

“I’ve always had this love of the neighborhood market — a place where people go all the time and where they feel they belong,” said Paper Plane operations manager Amanda Cranford. “It’s just so straightforward and simple. It’s a space where people come in and have a cup of soup, a cup of coffee. You feel like it’s a home away from home.”

Paper Plane will offer breakfast, lunch and an all-day bar food menu. Pastrami, pimento cheese and “adult lunchables” will be among the menu offerings at Belmont’s incoming “micromarket,” as Cranford describes. (Pro tip: Keep an eye out for the BLT with “bacon you can’t find anywhere else in Charlotte” – something Cranford is hoping the market becomes known for.)

Grab-and-go meals, coffee, wine, beer and liquor will also be available at the market, located in the former Trade and Lore spot next to Advent Coworking. The market will also have a small retail section.

Cranford got her culinary chops in a variety of roles in the industry in Charlotte, holding roles from short-order breakfast chef to systems manager. With Paper Plane, she wanted to strike out on her own and create a less complicated, communal space.

“The more I got into the culinary industry, I noticed how we had overcomplicated things,” Cranford said. “But I wanted the opposite. I wanted a simple egg sandwich in the morning and a good cup of coffee. At night, I just want a PBR and a Jameson and be able to hang out with my friends in a place that’s not so complicated.

“It’s really hard to just ‘be’ now,” Cranford said. “And that’s what I want to create here. I want to show that simple is OK.”

The space has 38 seats and patio seating for hungry patrons from next-door neighbor Advent and, with a little luck, from all over the city. Cranford said the market is currently planning to be open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Paper Plane is scheduled to open in early March.
