Skiptown opens Monday in South End, and we know you’re as excited as this Dalmatian

South End is getting a new dog park — but not just your average greenspace.

Think of Skiptown as a traditional dog park, upgraded. This is a dog park, dog groomer, boarding center and social bar, all in 24,000 square-foot facility opening on Monday, Aug. 24. A “country-club style retreat for dogs,” Skiptown will double as a hangout spot for pet parents. While dogs can socialize off-leash in Skiptown’s indoor and outdoor space, agility course or splash pad, pet owners can enjoy 25 beers on tap, wine, local food trucks and weekend morning coffee.

And dogs can participate in the drinking fun with a dog-friendly “beer” made with bone broth.

Skiptown’s flagship location will be located at 222 Rampart St. in South End, joining other local dog park-bars such as Lucky Dog Bark and Brew and Dog Bar in NoDa.

Skiptown’s services are app-based. The Skiptown app, formerly Skipper Pets, will allow pet owners to book services, view pet reports and customize playtime based on pet personality.

“Dogs are family. We all want to give our pups the best life. That’s why we’re here, to make it easy for pups and their people to live their best lives,” stated Founder and CEO Meggie Williams. “We built Skiptown to be a real-life dog dreamland, like the Whitewater Center for dogs. Think of it as an elevated social experience for your pup, and for you. We’re bringing modern convenience to the pet parent lifestyle in a way that hasn’t existed before.”

Skiptown offers memberships, daily passes or monthly passes. Founding membership are now available for $280 a year, $40 for each additional dog. Passes are $15 for the day or $40 for the month. Bar access is free for people without dogs.

Skiptown is the latest project from the team behind Skipper, a Charlotte-based dog-walking service founded in 2016. Skipper will rebrand to Skiptown Home Services and is now looking for regional expansion to Washington D.C., Nashville and Atlanta.
