Asheville’s Hi-Wire Brewing’s new Charlotte brewery and taproom opens today in South End

Asheville-based Hi-Wire Brewing’s new brewery and taproom opens Friday, July 15 in South End.

Charlotte is the brewery’s fourth North Carolina city, with three locations in Asheville, one in Durham and one in Wilmington.

Hi-Wire will be located on Tremont Avenue, near Pins Mechanical. “We typically like to look in up-and-coming neighborhoods for our locations, but South End is the exact opposite; it’s already booming,” said Hi-Wire Brewing co-owner, Chris Frosaker.

The taproom is located in 8,743 square feet and will be beside the new Benny Ferrovia’s pizzeria. It will feature a 2,000 square foot outdoor beer garden and — get this — ample parking, according to the release. The taproom also features:

  • Seating for more than 300 people
  • Two separate bars: The main bar serves 21 taps of Hi-Wire beer, including year-rounds, seasonals, specialties, sours, and one-offs. It also has two wine taps and one draft cider will be on one side of the taproom. The satellite bar is on the opposite end of the building with a roll-up garage door to serve the gaming area and the beer garden.
  • Activities include soccer pool, table tennis, and foosball.
  • A family friendly space where dogs are encouraged, both inside and out.

“It wouldn’t be a Hi-Wire taproom without mind-blowing art from Asheville-based artist Ian Wilkinson,” Frosaker said, “and this has the potential to be the largest mural he has done for us yet.”

Founded in Asheville in 2013, Hi-Wire’s popular beers include its Hi-Pitch Mosaic IPA, Lo-Pitch Hazy IPA and Pink Lemonade Session Sour Ale. Its sour and wild ale program has won awards.

“I’m just really excited to have them in the Charlotte scene because the beer scene in Charlotte is already so great, and Hi-Wire’s going to just take it to the next level,” manager Katy Talbert said.

Redline Design Group is the architect and Liles Construction did the buildout.
