These Charlotte businesses are closing temporarily because of the spike in COVID
At least three Charlotte retailers have temporarily closed this week due to COVID-19, amid a spike in cases in the area related to the omicron variant.
Lunchbox Records said via Instagram on Monday that it was closing to test all its employees after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19. Tuesday night, Lunchbox stated it would reopen on Wednesday after receiving negative tests for remaining employees.
And Moxie Mercantile shared that it was closing until Jan. 4 after several team members missed spending the holidays with their families.
NoDa Bodega also closed for five days and took precautions to clean after a couple of positive COVID test results, it said via Instagram. The business planned to reopen Wednesday.
At Comedy Zone Charlotte, several staff members tested positive for COVID, leading the club to cancel its upcoming New Year’s shows with Jeff Dye. A couple of other Charlotte businesses have also canceled New Year’s Eve parties.
The news came amid a warning from Atrium Health infectious disease expert Dr. Katie Passaretti, who said the latest variant of COVID-19, omicron, is extremely contagious and that people should reconsider their New Year’s plans — particularly for indoor events.
At Moxie Mercantile, the closure came after brisk holiday sales. “We made it through the busiest season our first two stores have ever seen and the community poured into Matthews and Betty. We are so incredibly grateful. With that came crowds of people and rising Covid concerns,” its Instagram message said. “Our team fared well until just before the big day. Several of our team members missed their families again this year and we just want everyone to rest up and get well. Our team comes first.”
